Tasmanian marathon charity runner Matt Duggan, who is recovering from bowel cancer, has hit the North-West Coast on his epic challenge to run from Cockle Creek in the South of the state, to Stanley.
Mr Duggan set off on May 3, with the aim of running the equivalent of 12 marathons in 12 days, after being diagnosed at stage 3 at the age of just 36.
The number equates to the 12 rounds of chemotherapy Mr Duggan received during his treatment and he hopes his run will help de-stigmatise the common thought that bowel cancer is a disease that doesn’t impact younger people.
Mr Duggan’s run is also a fundraiser for the Cancer Council Tasmania, having already raised more than $89,000 of his target of $100,000.
The final stages his marathon will see Mr Duggan run through Ulverstone, Burnie and Wynyard, on Monday and Tuesday, finishing at Stanley on Wednesday.
