Back in 2002, Eminem dominated the box office and the music charts with 8 Mile. It won an Oscar, made millions, and seemed like the launchpad for a massive acting career. But then… nothing. Now, his longtime friend and collaborator 50 Cent has finally explained why.
The Problem With Hollywood
During a recent interview with GQ discussing his own 2005 film Get Rich or Die Tryin’, 50 Cent shared that the movie business simply doesn’t offer the level of control Eminem is used to having. In the recording studio, musicians are the boss. On a film set, they are just one small part of a giant machine.
“This is why they couldn’t get Em back after 8 Mile,” 50 Cent explained. He pointed out that in the music industry, artists can tweak a track until it is completely perfected. In movies, you have to hand over your performance to a massive team of directors, editors, and producers. While Eminem has made a few small cameos (including his recent appearance in Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore 2) he never wanted to hand over control for another leading role.
A Surprise 2Pac Collaboration
Even if they aren’t co-starring in Hollywood blockbusters, the famous duo is still making music for them.
50 Cent confirmed he and Eminem have created the theme song for his upcoming Street Fighter movie. The new track even features unreleased, authentic vocals from the late 2Pac. 50 Cent proudly noted that the song was made with zero artificial intelligence and has the full approval of 2Pac’s estate.
