A massive Monopoly match in Sydney has made its way into the record books, with 918 players rolling dice in unison to set a new Guinness World Record for the largest game of Monopoly ever held at a single venue.

The event, held on 30 March 2025 at the International Convention Centre Sydney, saw 150 game boards in play as part of a coordinated effort by the Little Legs Foundation. But this wasn’t just about board games and bragging rights.

A Legacy of Love: Remembering Alegra

The driving force behind this initiative was the memory of Alegra, a young girl who tragically lost her life to brain cancer. Her family, through the Little Legs Foundation, created this event not only to set a record but to shine a spotlight on childhood brain cancer, a devastating disease that affects many but receives little attention.

Organisers described the gathering as “more than just a game.” It became a moment of unity and remembrance, with friends, family and strangers rolling dice in honour of a life gone too soon.

More Than Just a Board Game

The logistical effort behind this event was no small feat. Guinness World Records verified each participant and every game board to ensure everything met official standards. What resulted was a vibrant, energetic, and emotional gathering where community spirit trumped competition.

Funds raised from the event will go towards brain cancer research, reinforcing the message that even playful activities like Monopoly can carry powerful, life-changing significance.
