Deputy Opposition Leader, Shadow Minister for Infrastructure and Braddon MP Anita Dow, has called on Premier Jeremy Rockliff to rule out selling TasPorts, possibly to foreign owners.
The Government will undertake a review of all Government-owned business, although Mr Rockliff says Hydro Tasmania is not for sale.
Ms Dow wants him to give the same guarantee for TasPorts, saying privatisation of other major ports in Australia has been disastrous.
She says the sale of the Port of Darwin to foreign ownership has created a security risk for the Northern Territory, while the sale of the Port of Sydney included anti-competitive clauses.
Ms Dow says the critical role TasPorts plays in the development of Tasmania’s economy, especially on the North-West Coast in Devonport and Burnie, is undeniable, which could make any sale risky.
