The Tourism Industry Council of Tasmania has called on federal election candidates from both major parties to support more spending on tourism infrastructure on the North-West and West Coasts.
Its list of priorities include making the Cradle Mountain Master Plan a reality, including the cableway from the visitor centre to Dove Lake, restoration of the West Coast Wilderness Railway to full service, and funding to allow the Don River Railway to undertake main-line trips to Devonport and Penguin.
Council chief executive officer Amy Hills says more than half a million tourists visit the North-West and West Coasts every year and the number is only going to increase with new Spirit of Tasmania ships arriving in 2027.
Ms Hills says it’s all about future-proofing our major attractions for everyone to enjoy.
