The North-West Coast now has Tasmania’s best recycling facility with the opening of Veolia’s $24 million Materials Recovery Facility at Spreyton.

The facility will be able to process up to 20,000 tonnes of recyclable material a year, including paper, cardboard, plastics, glass and metals from 100,000 households across the North and North-West of the state.

It will be able to remove any contamination from items wrongly put in recycling bins, ensuring high quality sorting or materials for onwards processing into new products.

The facility was designed and constructed in conjunction with the Dulverton Waste Management Authority, Launceston City Council and other Northern councils.

Veolia CEO Richard Kirkman says the facility will be a game changer for the region and will almost double Tasmania’s current processing capacity.
