Former Burnie mayor Steve Kons has resigned from the Burnie City Council.
The former Deputy Premier has tendered his resignation after 12 years in the role, effectively immediately.
Mr Kons says he decided to quit after Tuesday night’s monthly council meeting for September, to devote more time to his business interests and family.
A three-term mayor, Mr Kons was one of six councillors to nominate for the top job in the 2022 election, and at times has butted heads with Mayor Teeny Brumby.
Councillor Brumby says while she and the former mayor didn’t always see eye to eye, his service to the council and the city has been significant.
