The North-West penguin viewing season is underway.

Friends of Lillico Penguins have reported up to 80 penguins an evening are coming ashore to feed their young at the rookery near Don Heads, usually around 60-90 minutes after sunset.

Further West along the Coast, nightly penguin guide tours are scheduled to recommence at the Burnie rookery from next Tuesday evening.

Friends of Burnie Penguins are still recruiting for more volunteer guides, while volunteer guides are also needed for the Stanley rookery.

Volunteers need no previous experience, but a desire to work outdoors and promote and educate the community about local wildlife.

A Working With Vulnerable People card is essential, as volunteers will be interacting with a wide cross section of the community.

Meanwhile, the Burnie-based Penguin Rehab and Release group is holding a volunteer information evening at the Cradle Coast Authority building in Sprint Street tonight between 5.30 and 7 pm.
