Police on the North-West Coast are not impressed with the behaviour of some drivers over the weekend, booking eight drink drivers between Friday afternoon and Sunday evening.

The worst offender, a 36 year-old Ulverstone man was nabbed in Ulverstone on Saturday night, blowing 0.238, which is nearly five times the legal limit.

He was charged with drink driving, having an unregistered and uninsured vehicle, and minor drug offences.

A short time later a 21 year-old man from Sassafras was charged after crashing his car into a pole on Sheffield Road and returned a reading of 0.161 – more than three times the legal limit.

He received minor injuries and was also charged with drink-driving.

On Sunday, a 38 year-old Sheffield man was intercepted on Mersey Main Road at Spreyton and returned a reading of 0.213 – more than four times the legal limit.

He was also charged with drink-driving.

Police say it’s disappointing to see such high numbers of drink drivers over such a short period of time and especially with high readings, putting themselves and other road users at significant risk.
