Taking an icy dip for a good cause

June 19, 2024 11:50 am in by

North-West Coasters are being asked to brave the cold and take a dip in the sea this Saturday, but it’s all in a good cause, with winter solstice swims at Devonport and Boat Harbour.

Friday is officially the winter solstice or the shortest day of the year, with sunlight hours on the increase heading towards spring.

The Devonport swim is being organised by the Devonport Chaplaincy and will be held at the Mersey Bluff Beach at 8 am, with all funds raised to help support breakfast clubs and mental health training in local schools.

The Boat Harbour swim is being organised by the Boat Harbour Surf Life Saving Club, and will start at 4.30 pm, with proceeds to aid Motor neurone disease research.

Swimmers are being encouraged to wear fancy dress, with the event to be followed by warm meals and live music.
