The Central Coast Council has called on the State Government to commit more funding to road line marking.
The council is backing a motion from the Kingborough Council in the South of the State to discuss the matter at tomorrow’s Local Government Association of Tasmania general meeting in Devonport.
Acting Central Coast Mayor John Beswick says councils are asked to provide the State Government with a list of priorities, but are never told where and how much money has been spent.
Councillor Beswick says roles and responsibilities for line marking need to be reviewed and there needs to be greater transparency and more local input in decision making.
He says councils would like to work closer with the State Government to ensure a greater collaborative approach, providing greater co-ordination with council road, building, maintenance and safety programmes, to ensure money is being spent where it is needed the most.
