Tasmania has recorded another two Covid-linked deaths overnight.
Two men in the State’s North have passed away, one aged in his late 70’s and the other in his 90’s.
Their deaths take the toll to 108 since the beginning of the pandemic.
The news follows 1,662 new cases reported in the past 24 hours.
138 people are in hospital with Covid-19, 35 of those patients being treated specifically for Coronavirus symptoms.
Five people are being cared for in the ICU.
The total number of active cases currently stands at 10,434, with more than 200,000 Tasmanians recovering from COVID-19.
5,463 Coronavirus cases are active in the South of the state, more than 2,700 active cases can be found in the North.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff has attended a snap National Cabinet meeting today, paid pandemic leave dominating the high level talks.
It’s been confirmed pandemic support payments will be reinstated until September 30th.
The Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment is a lump sum payment to help you during the time you can’t work and earn income because you have to self-isolate or quarantine due to COVID-19 or you’re caring for someone who has to self-isolate or quarantine due to COVID-19.
The scheme had wrapped up at the end of the last financial year, Premier Jeremy Rockliff a part of the push to extend the payments in the wake of high case numbers.
The measure is estimated to cost just under $800 million, with the State and Federal Government to split the cost 50/50.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has said he expects Covid-19 cases to peak in August.
Applications for the Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment will open from Wednesday.
