A motorcyclist is dead after a crash with a utility in northwest Tasmania early on Tuesday.

Police say Kelsey Tier Road will be closed at Spreyton while the scene is investigated.

"At 6.50am, police attended a two vehicle crash between a Kawasaki Motorcycle and a Mitsubishi Utility on Kelcey Tier Road," said Sergeant James Scicluna.

"Sadly the 24-year-old Spreyton man who was riding the motorcycle was found deceased at the scene.

"The 59-year-old man who was driving the Mitsubishi Utility was treated for minor injuries."

The death takes the state's road toll to 15 for the year.

Traffic is being diverted along Sheffield and Forth Roads.

Meantime a truck driver avoided serious injury in a crash on Victoria Valley Road north of Ouse.
