An 18-year-old has died after a car crashed into a power pole in the state's north overnight.
It's believed the 27-year-old driver lost control of his Mitsubishi Triton on Frankford Road near Birralee while rounding a bend and left the roadway just after midnight.
He's been taken to Launceston General Hospital in a stable condition, but his young passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, a Tongan man is in a critical condition after a single vehicle crash near Mole Creek.
Initial investigations suggest the 21-year-old lost control of his green Toyota Camry on Mole Creek Road and hit a power pole, early yesterday morning.
It's thought the man may have been working in the area.

Down south, police are investigating the death of an elderly lady in Dover.
The 76-year-old was the driver of a Toyota Avalon sedan which was found submerged off Dover Wharf early on Thursday morning.
It's not being treated as suspicious, but authorities are looking to establish how the car ended up in the water.
