It's now more expensive to rent in Hobart than in Melbourne.
CoreLogic’s Quarterly Rental Review finds there are just three cities where leasing a home is more expensive than Tasmania's capital: Sydney, Canberra and Darwin
The median rent in Hobart soared to $507 dollars, a rise of 12.8% over the past 12 months - back then it was neck and neck with Melbourne, but no longer.
Meanwhile, ABS statistics place Tasmania’s average adult gross weekly earnings as the lowest in Australia, $217 below the national average.
Tasmania's Real Estate Institute estimates the rental vacancy rates around the state are about 1%.
