Although the state government concedes around 10% of Tasmania's health workforce hasn't provided evidence of covid vaccination compliance, it still denies there is a problem.
This Sunday is the deadline, where non-compliant workers, currently estimated to be around 1300, have been told their employment will be terminated.
In parliament's question time, Labor's asked Health Minister Jeremy Rockliff to outline his plan to fill behind the shortfall created when unvaccinated health workers are dismissed.
He didn't exactly go into specifics, instead holding firm on the 'no jab no job' ruling.
"We can't afford to see hundreds of staff off work because of Covid as has happened in other states, we are prepared."
Deputy Labor leader Anita Dow has grave misgivings about the already fragile health system being able to manage the staff losses.
“Even if vaccination rates rise by several per cent over the next five days, there may still be hundreds of health workers who will be out of the health system entirely by next Monday.
“If that happens, it’s not clear how health services across the state will be impacted and what will become of our already over-stretched health system?
“Labor supports mandatory vaccines for health workers to keep Tasmanians and our health care workers safe, and we would encourage all remaining health workers to take the steps needed to comply with Sunday’s deadline.
“But it is deeply concerning that, when asked in Parliament this morning, the Health Minister couldn’t state how many health care workers had advised they would not be vaccinated and had no plan for what would be done to fill the shortfall when unvaccinated workers are dismissed en masse this weekend.
“The government must make its plan clear as we approach Sunday’s deadline.”
