NSW records one new local virus case

NSW has recorded just one new locally-transmitted case of COVID-19, with a coronavirus cluster in southwest Sydney's Oran Park growing to 19.

The state recorded five new virus cases in total in the 24 hours to 8pm on Saturday, with four in returned travellers in hotel quarantine. Almost 13,000 tests were performed.

NSW Health said in a statement on Sunday the locally-acquired infection was connected to Great Beginnings childcare in Oran Park.

All staff and children who attended the centre between October 2 and Tuesday have been told to get tested and self-isolate for a fortnight.

The creche will remain closed until at least October 28.

Health officials on Saturday night issued alerts for people who were at the following venues to get tested if they developed symptoms and to isolate until a negative test was received:

* The Gregory Hills Hotel, Gregory Hills, on the evening of Friday, October 9

* The 1500 United Cinema, Narellan Town Centre on early Saturday afternoon, October 10

* Shellharbour South Beach and Little Park on Sunday, October 11, 12pm-4pm

* Woolworths Oran Park on Monday, October 12, 6.40-6.55pm.

Alerts are also on the NSW Health website for four bus routes to or from Oran Park, Campbelltown and Bradbury between 9.40am and 3.30pm on October 14.

One case in NSW is in intensive care.

NSW recorded seven new cases of COVID-19 - including five local cases - in the preceding 24 hours, with all locally-acquired cases connected to Oran Park.

Saturday sport was cancelled for Oran Park High School and authorities have directed all staff and pupils to self-isolate. A student earlier in the week came down with the virus.

This weekend has also ushered in eased restrictions for NSW outdoor venues, with up to 500 people allowed to attend open-air concerts so long as they stay seated and four metres apart.

Limits on outdoor dining have also been relaxed, allowing one patron per two square metres, with venues to use an electronic QR code to record contact details.
