North-West child mental health services critical

A chronic shortage of mental health workers for the North-West Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services has been highlighted by staff and the Health and Community Services Union.

HACSU assistant state secretary Lucas Digney says yesterday there were four staff working with more than 100 clients between them for the day.

Although based in Burnie, the service has clients right across the North-West Coast from Smithton through to Latrobe.

Mr Digney says staffing levels are at dangerous levels of less than 50 per cent and the waiting lists for clients is getting longer and workers have been forced into industrial action to highlight the situation.
