Visitor numbers to Tasmania’s national parks and reserves, including those on the North-West Coast have shown increased visitor numbers over the past financial year.
Parks Minister and Braddon MP Roger Jaensch says Cradle Mountain, Freycinet and Mount Field remain the most popular with visitors, with a combined visitation of 751,000 for the 12 months ended June this year.
Records were broken at the Gordon River on the West Coast, Narawntapu National Park near Port Sorell, and Highfield House at Stanley.
The Cradle Mountain Overland Track also attracted a record 11,000 walkers for the 80km multi-day trek.
Mr Jaensch says Tasmania’s national parks draw visitors from around the state, Australia and the world and in many cases support economies and jobs in regional towns and communities.
He says the data from the past 12 months will be used to plan, manage and support visitor experiences at Tasmania’s much sought after destinations.
