A Mexican television mini-series on international streaming giant Netflix, which is based around the deaths of several children when an inflatable jumping castle blows into the air, has created a social media storm in Australia, being blasted as insensitive.
The series, in Spanish with English subtitles, is called The Accident, and also has a version dubbed over in English.
The scenario tells of when a birthday party turns into a tragedy and sets off an unthinkable chain of events.
While the story is fiction, the similarities to the Hillcrest Primary School Tragedy in December 2021, in which six children were killed and three seriously injured, have hit a nerve with Aussie Netflix viewers, many of whom say it should not have been made available in Australia.
Other posts suggest if viewers find the content disturbing, they shouldn’t watch the series.
Meanwhile, the inquest into the Hillcrest tragedy is due to start in November, almost three years after it happened.
