State Labor says the Tasmanian Government appears to have lost the plot on port infrastructure on the North-West Coast.
The opposition says Infrastructure Minister Michael Ferguson was kept in the dark about delays to port infrastructure in Devonport for the replacement Spirit of Tasmania ships and it now also has doubts about how much he knows about major berth repairs needed in Burnie.
TasPorts has been aware of scouring beneath the No. 4 Berth since last year, used for major freight services provided by Strait Link Shipping, formerly know as Toll Shipping.
The berth is more than 130 years old and TasPorts has started remediation work, while at the same time starting upgrades on the No. 5 Berth in case Strait Link has to be moved.
Deputy Opposition Leader and Braddon MP Anita Dow says Mr Ferguson needs to reveal what the repairs will cost, the impact on shipping, and how long they will take.
Mr Ferguson says he’s still waiting on an update from TasPorts.
