Hundreds still without power

More than 600 residences and businesses on the North-West Coast are currently without power as of Monday morning, with repairs delayed due to industrial action by TesNetwork employees.

Other parts of the state are significantly less-affected, with 32 customers without power in the South and just 14 in the North.

TasNetworks workers who say they are paid up to 35 per cent less than for the same roles interstate.

However, TasNetworks has invoked an emergency declaration based on forecast extreme weather over coming days.

Under the declaration, all industrial action is suspended and TasNetwork employees are required to return to normal rostered and emergency duties.

However, Communications, Electrical and Plumbing Union Tasmanian organiser Chris Clark has disputed the declaration saying the industrial action is not suspended and if an emergency incident is declared, members will respond to make the situation safe, but restoration work will only be carried out at nursing homes or hospitals.
