More than half of the NWFL’s seven teams will be looking for new coaches for next season as the Coastal football competition’s finals series gets underway this weekend.

First-year Penguin playing coach Luke Russell has already stepped down to pursue a new career option, but is still hopeful of playing some games next year.

Circular Head Head Saints coach Cameron Lockett has been at the helm since the club re-joined the competition last year, returning from a recess in 2019, but has decided to call time on his coaching career.

Ulverstone coach Stephen French has also pulled the pin, while Latrobe is saying it’s decided to part ways with coach Nik Hizartzidis, who has been in the job for the past three seasons following three years as senior assistant coach.

Ironically, the two clubs will play each other in this Sunday’s elimination final at Latrobe, with Hizartzidis still in charge of the Demons, despite his imminent departure.

The qualifying final between Wynyard and Burnie, will take place at Wynyard on Saturday.

Reigning premier Devonport finished the regular season undefeated and on top of the ladder and have earned the week off before taking on either Wynyard or Burnie in the second semi-final on September 9.
