Flood warnings and preparedness under the microscope

The University of Tasmania wants to hear from people in communities affected by last year’s damaging floods in October.

The research is exploring community experiences of the Tasmanian State Emergency Service flood warning system as well as community preparedness for flood in the Kentish, Latrobe and Central Coast municipalities as well as others in the North and North-East.

UTAS is conducting the research on behalf of Natural Hazards Research Australia and the Tasmanian SES, with the data to inform improvements to the flood warning system and community disaster preparedness programmes.

Researcher Darryl Stellmach says he’s keen to hear how people got their information and how helpful it was.
