Eight possible Cam River crossing sites identified

The State Government has released a feasibility study into the merits of a second crossing over the Cam River near Somerset.

The study proposes at least eight potential sites for a new bridge and associated road connections.

The study was prompted by floods damaging the existing bridge in October last year, forcing one lane to be closed and creating massive traffic issues.

In the meantime, Infrastructure Minister Michael Ferguson says construction on the replacement for the current bridge is well advanced and expected to open early next year.

Mr Ferguson says the new bridge is wider, safer and designed to withstand significant flood events.

Public consultation drop-in sessions on the second bridge proposals will be held at The Circular Head Council Chambers on November 8, the Waratah-Wynyard Council Chambers on November 9, and at The Point in Burnie on November 10, with all sessions from 12-7 pm.
