One of Tasmania’s most prestigious thoroughbred races for mares will be re-named after champion North-West racehorse Mystic Journey.

The $150,000 Bow Mistress Trophy has been around since 2006, but next year’s event at Elwick in February will be known as the Mystic Journey Stakes.

The event is considered Tasmania’s premier weight for age mares’ races over 1200 metres.

Mystic Journey was trained by Adam Trinder at Spreyton and was purchased for $11,000 as a yearling, before going on to win more than $4.2 million in prizemoney over her 28-race career.

She last raced in 2021 and has been sold to Japanese breeders.
