More North-West Coasters are being urged to register as organ donors this week during Donate Life Week this week.

New data from the Australian Organ Donor Register has revealed the percentage of organ donors on the Coast is generally lagging behind the rest of the state.

Burnie has the highest ratio on the North-West Coast with 52 per cent, placing it equal sixth in the state.

Central Coast and Waratah-Wynyard are equal seventh with 51 per cent, followed by Devonport 10th at 48 per cent, Kentish 12th at 46 per cent and Latrobe 13th with 44 per cent.

Donate Life Tasmania medical director Dr Andrew Turner says registering as an organ donor is easy, using the Medicare app on your smart-phone, or on-line at donatelife.gov.au, and takes only minutes to complete.

Dr Turner says 80 per cent of Australoians say they support organ and tissue donation, but only one in three are actually registered.
