The Coast’s two cities have both recorded surpluses for the financial year ended June 30th.
The Devonport City Council has released its annual report, showing a $4.67 million surplus, while a report to be tabled at tonight’s Burnie City Council monthly meeting for October shows a surplus of $1.82 million.
Devonport’s general manager Matthew Atkins says income exceeded the budget by $1.9 million and the council had managed to deliver $14 million in capital expenditure, which included major road renewals and continuation of the Don to Leith section of the Coastal Pathway project.
Meanwhile, Burnie general manager Simon Overland says Burnie’s bottom line was boosted by a better than expected revenue performance, up by 8 per cent, and contained expenditure 1 per cent better than budgeted.
The surplus for Burnie is only the third time since 2012, but its second consecutive budget back in the black.
