The work of more than 350 budding scientists and engineers will be on show today and tomorrow at the University of Tasmania’s Cradle Coast Campus at West Park during the BIG Science Fair.
The event has attracted entries from schools across the Coast from Latrobe to Smithton, with 180 projects on show, vying for $8000 in prizemoney, including $1000 for the Young Scientist of the Year and $1000 for the Young Engineer of the Year.
BIG committee chair Luke Sayer says anyone attending the event will be inspired by the incredible projects the young people from grades 5 to 12 are working on.
BIG was formed in 2014 to link business and industry with schools to ensure young people can see and learn about skills needed and opportunities open to them in the region, with the science fair a key complement of the organisation’s activities.
