The MAIB and Metro have combined to offer a $2 Nightrider Fare on Metro busses in the Burnie area for New Year’s Eve.

MAIB CEO Paul Kingston says people should leave their car keys at home on New Year’s Eve, encourage family and friends to do the same, and catch a bus.

Metro CEO Katie Cooper says party goers can catch a bus to their party or festivities and relax, enjoy themselves and then get home safely on a Metro Nightrider bus.

The nightrider service also has the full backing of the Tasmanian Road Safety Advisory Council.

Council chair Scott Tilyard says the message is simple – if you’re planning on drinking, don’t plan on driving, as it’s not worth the risk.

The new Years Eve $2 fares will apply from 6pm and are cash only, with anyone using cards charged the normal fare.
