Severe weather for coast

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Weather Warning for heavy rainfall in the North West and parts of the North East, East Coast and Central Plateau Forecast Districts

A trough moving along eastern Australia is expected to extend over Tasmania on Saturday bringing rainfall throughout the state, with significant rainfall expected about northern Tasmania and the upper east coast.

HEAVY RAIN which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is likely about northwest Tasmania during Saturday morning and afternoon, and then is likely about northeast Tasmania on Saturday afternoon and evening. Locations which may be affected include Devonport, Burnie and Smithton.

Some useful tips when dealing with severe weather include:

Driving to the conditions - Do not drive, walk or ride through flood waters

People within these catchments should be mindful of rising river levels

Ensure drains and gutters are clear of debris and are running freely

Beware of damaged trees and power lines, trees & limbs may fall in these conditions

Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings

Manage pets and livestock

Be prepared in case of power outages
