TasWater is responding to an outage at the Dial Point Sewage Pump Station in Penguin
following a pump failure.
In a statement, the company says despite extensive repair efforts, the pump remains offline causing wastewater to spill into the holding lagoons at Dial Point, which are now at capacity.
As a result, wastewater is flowing over land into the nearby ocean.
TasWater Incident Controller Leigh Walton says the Environmental Health Officer
at the Central Coast Council and the EPA have been notified and TasWater is working closely with them to manage the situation,
“Crews have started pumping wastewater from the site to the Ulverstone Sewage
Treatment Plant to reduce environmental impacts and our team is working to restore
the pump station as quickly as possible,”
“We ask the community to please avoid the area surrounding the holding lagoons and
the pump station.”
