sharksighting

Northwest Coasters are being warned of a shark sighting off Burnie today.

Police say a member of the public raised the alarm about the creature, of unknown species, around a quarter to 10.

It was seen swimming around 100 meters off the beach near Burnie High School.

The public alert is part of new shark warning protocol for Tasmania.

It follows a 3-4m shark being sighted at Binalong Bay last week.

Parks and Wildlife and Coastal Radio have been informed.
